Therapy for Perimenopause, Menopause and Changing Bodies

Find your footing when your body feels unfamiliar

Maybe the way your clothes fit has changed. Maybe you feel more critical of your appearance, less comfortable being seen or frustrated that familiar routines no longer seem to fit your needs. You may miss feeling like yourself and wonder how to adjust without turning your body into another project.

I support women navigating the emotional side of perimenopause, menopause and midlife body changes. Therapy gives you room to talk honestly about what feels difficult and explore how you want to care for yourself through it.

More than a conversation about appearance

A changing body can affect how you see yourself, how comfortable you feel with intimacy and whether you want to participate in things you once enjoyed. You might feel pressure to accept everything gracefully while privately feeling grief, anger or uncertainty.

Those feelings deserve attention. We can explore what you miss, what you fear and what you need now, without rushing you toward a positive outlook.

As a woman navigating perimenopause myself, I bring a personal understanding of this transition. In therapy, your experience and priorities guide our work.

When old food and body patterns return

Body changes can bring back the urge to restrict food, exercise harder or monitor your appearance more closely. You might find yourself comparing your body with a younger version of yourself or feeling unsettled by other people’s weight loss.

We can look at how those reactions affect you and work on responding with more flexibility. That may mean stepping back from comparison, reconsidering old rules or finding ways to move and care for yourself that feel supportive now.

You are allowed to want changes. You also deserve a life that is not on hold while you pursue them.

Caring for yourself as your needs change

My background in health, wellness and behavior change helps me understand how challenging it can be to adjust expectations you have held for years. Together, we can explore the emotional barriers to rest, asking for support or changing a routine that no longer serves you.

We can also work on anxiety, self criticism and the pressure to remain capable for everyone else while you are going through a transition of your own.

Therapy supports the emotional and behavioral side of this experience alongside care from your medical provider. Questions about symptoms, hormones or treatment belong with that provider; our work can help you clarify your concerns and prepare to communicate what you need.

You can take time to find your way

You do not need to know exactly how you want to feel about your changing body. We can begin with what you are experiencing and build from there.

I offer individual telehealth therapy for adults in Colorado and coaching for those outside Colorado.
